Pakistan delegates likely to miss left summit

The CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will inaugurate the meeting and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over the inaugural function.

Kochi: The delegates from Pakistan scheduled to attend a two-day meeting of the communist parties of South Asia organised by the CPM marking the centenary of the October Revolution at Kochi on September 22 and 23 have not been provided with Visa. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters on Tuesday 30 delegates from the South Asian countries will attend the meet which will conclude with a red volunteer march and public meeting on September 24.

The visa for delegates from Communist Party of Pakistan and Awami Workers Party of Pakistan has not been cleared so far, Kodiyeri said. Delegates from Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh will be attending the meeting, he added. The CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will inaugurate the meeting and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over the inaugural function. According to Kodiyeri the two-day meeting will discuss several issues including the Rohingya refugee crisis, the US interventions in South Asia and others.
