Krishna chit fund scam: Crime Branch collects details

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 3,700 investors of Nirmal Krishna Nidhi financial firm produced details of their investments to the Crime Branch at Parassala on Tuesday. The Crime Branch is likely to give a preliminary enquiry regarding the scam with recommendation on whether a case could be registered or not, to state police chief by Wednesday. According to Crime Branch sources, the total amount of the investments was only being ascertained till late in the evening. It would run into many crores. A Crime Branch team led by DySP Anil Kumar held a camp at Parassala on Tuesday.

The Crime Branch was also seeking legal opinion on the scope for registering a case here as the firm was based at Paluckal, which is in Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu. The Tamilnadu police already registered a case and held two. Police sources said that the state police could liaison with their Tamilnadu counterparts probing the case and could also protect the interests of the investors by identifying and seizing his benamni assets. Meanwhile, the investors alleged that neither the Tamilnadu police nor the Kerala police was initiating any steps to nab the key promoter of the firm Nirmal Krishnan. He was residing at Jagathy in Thiruvananthapuram.
