Palakkad medical college flouted posting rules: VACB
Thrissur: The Vigilance report submitted to the Thrissur court on Monday found gross anomalies in the appointments of nearly 200 teaching and non-teaching staff at Palakkad medical college during the tenure of the previous UDF government. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau in Palakkad, which filed the report, had registered an FIR against former special officer of the college, S. Subbiah.
However, the VACB is yet to get any evidence against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and former minister for the welfare of scheduled castes and backward classes A. P. Anil Kumar in the case. Vigilance DySP M. Sukumaran told DC that though over 125 teaching and several non-teaching staff were appointed directly, the Vigilance found lack of transparency and flouting of guidelines in the appointments.
He also said that a case had been registered against Mr Subbiah over corruption. FIRs might be registered against more persons. “We will look for government documents citing allotment of posts for the college as we doubt that the appointments were not done according to the posts available,” he said. The former minister and the CM would face action if the Vigilance gets enough proof, he noted. Another Vigilance team in Thiruvanathapuram is also inquiring into the government decisions taken during 2013-15, when the appointments were made.
