E-tourist visa: Foreigners can stay 100 days in India
Chennai: Encouraged with the overwhelming response to the e-tourist visas scheme, the Centre has proposed to further liberalise the procedure by introducing multiple entry for foreign nationals besides allowing them to stay for 100 days rather than the 30-day period now offered to them.
Speaking at the inaugural of the 32nd edition of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (Iato) here on Monday, Union tourism secretary Vinod Zutshi said the ministry had "in-principle" agreed to liberalise the e-tourist visa rules permitting multiple entry from single entry allowed now and also extending the period of stay to one hundred days from 30 days provided at present. "It will be matter of time to implement these," he added.
Inaugurating the event, state tourism minister Vellamandi N. Natarajan said CM J. Jayalalithaa has initiated several schemes to promote Tamil Nadu as an ideal and all-time tourist destination.
