Chennai Porsche Accident: Victim's mom, daughter were on way to Sabarimala

Chennai: Arumugam, 29, who was one among the nine injured auto drivers in the accident that took place early on Monday morning, succumbed to injuries at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

“I received a call at around 3:30 am on Monday, stating that my brother seriously injured. I called my mother, who had gone to Sabarimala with Arumugam’s seven-year-old daughter Manisha, and told her not to enter the temple, but to return immediately,” said Vinayagam, the elder brother of the deceased.

Arumugam had lost his wife Pushpa and five-year-old daughter Ranjana barely four months back due to self-immolation. He used to work hard to make ends meet for his family by working two days at a stretch in Chennai, before returning home to Tiruttani for a day.

He drove a rented auto, which he would leave behind at Egmore before he went home. “My mother will take care of the child now,” he added.

Fractured his right hand fingers: Varadan, 54, also seriously injured, was on the verge of getting discharged when DC spoke to his family members.

“He has severe back pain as he was sleeping when the car hit his auto. After all the scans and tests were done, doctors said that he is fine and can be discharged. However, he fractured the fingers on his right hand,” said Jagan, his son.

“We have been asked to bring him back for check up next Tuesday,” he added.
The patients were all taken to Royapettah Government Hospital at around 4 am and the two seriously injured were shifted to RGGGH.

Seven of them were treated as Out Patients (OPs) at the Royapettah Hospital.
“Seven of them didn’t require admission as their injuries were minor. However, we referred the other two, namely Varadan and Arumugam to RGGGH,” said a source at the Royapettah Hospital.
