Persons guilty of ragging can be jailed: Kurnool magistrate

Kurnool: Special judicial magistrate of first class (prohibition and excise), Kurnool, Pathan Shias Khan on Saturday warned against ragging in colleges, saying persons found guilty could be imprisoned, fined, or both, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The severity of the punishment depends on the gravity of the offense and these provisions are in place to deter and address the serious issue, he said at an awareness session in Viswabharathi Medical College, Penchikalapadu.
The district legal service authority (DLSA) organised the session. Creating awareness about the adverse effects of ragging is crucial, Shias said.

Secretary of DLSA Ch. Venkata Naga Srinivasa Rao, chief legal aid defence counsel S. Manohara, principal of Vishwabharati Medical College S. Muniruddin Ahmed, faculty members and students of the college participated.
