Intercaste couple crack Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission

D.Suresh got overall 4th rank and got selected as deputy collector and his wife Vasuki got the overall 101st rank and community wise 7th rank.

Chennai: An inter-caste married couple disproved theories of failure of such wedlocks by cracking the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group one exam together and set an example to inter-caste lovers.

D.Suresh got overall 4th rank and got selected as deputy collector and his wife Vasuki got the overall 101st rank and community wise 7th rank. She wins the post of assistant commissioner of commercial taxes. TNPSC chairman K.Arulmozhi handed over the allotment orders to them on Friday. “Many people are taking wrong decisions because of love failures. We want to stand as an example for all the lovers and there is life beyond love,” said D.Suresh, an assistant veterinary surgeon.

He fell in love with Vasuki, a student at a TNPSC coaching centre. Both their families initially opposed their ties, but they convinced them and got married in February 2014.

Around the same time, TNPSC had called for applications to 79 group one posts including that of the deputy collector, DSP and assistant commissioner of commercial taxes.

“He persuaded me to apply for the exam. Without him I could not have cracked the exam," says Vasuki. She is presently employed as the senior inspector of cooperative societies in Villupuram district. She also finished B.VSc in Namakkal. “I finished my B.VSc in 2008 and after that I got selected as the veterinary assistant surgeon through TNPSC exam in 2010. I was posted at Kallakurichi in Villupuram district. We conducted free coaching for TNPSC aspirants there. I met my wife at the coaching centre and fell in love,” said Suresh. His wife Vasuki is from Melur near Kallakurichi in Villupuram district. “I cracked the TNPSC group one exam in my third attempt. It's my five years of hard work,” he said. He also plans to give coaching to the rural students to help them enter into the government services. C.Vidhya from Virudhunagar came as a topper in the group one exam. She finished her M.Tech in Alagappa University.

E.Sathishkumar from Namakkal district got the second rank. He passed out from College of Engineering, Guindy in 2012. TNPSC rank list also dominated by the professional graduates. The preliminary exam was conducted in July 2014. Totally 70,547 appeared for the exam.
