Institute ranked sixth in first NIRF higher education ranking

Kochi: Prof Pankaj Chandra, Chairman, Board of Management, Ahmedabad University and Former Director, IIM Bangalore will deliver the 21st Foundation Day Lecture and also inaugurate an exhibition on the 20-year journey of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode towards academic excellence as part of the celebration of 20 years of IIM-K on Sunday. The Institute was ranked number 6 among all management schools, in the first NIRF rankings for higher education launched by the Ministry of Human Resources Development in 2016.

Starting in 1997 with a batch of 42 students in its Post Graduate Programme (PGP), IIMK is on a high growth trajectory today. The PGP student’s intake for 2016 was 384 students, an increase by nine times in 20 years thus making it the fastest growing management school in the country, a release said. The notable highlights in the last two decades included incubation of a Centre of Excellence jointly with the Government of Kerala, to help Scheduled Castes/Tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication and personality; Interactive Distance Learning for working executives in India; accreditation from the London-based AMBA for its PGP and Executive PGP; raising women's enrollment to over 30 per cent and opening the first Indian Business Museum in 2013.

IIMK has also achieved added heights of academic rigour, research focus and education excellence, the release said. The IIMK is also successfully mentoring IIM Amritsar, the 15th IIM in the country, since October 2014. Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Director In-charge, IIM Kozhikode said “The IIM Kozhikode community has made concerted efforts to put the Institute on the academic map of India. We worked collectively with our diverse ideas to put up this Institute and brought it to its current position. We will strive to do better in the coming years and contribute to the nation building process.”
