Kerala: Undue delay in postings irks police force

Over 15 circle inspectors were shifted from various posts as part of the recent statewide shakeup subsequent to the change of guard from UDF to LDF.

Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the police force often laments of insufficient manpower, nearly two dozen officers in the ranks of DySPs, circle inspectors and sub-inspectors have been awaiting postings for even about two months. Police sources said strong resentment is simmering among them for the inordinate delay in giving fresh postings without any genuine reasons even when open vacancies existed.

"It is very demoralising to see the officials without any postings turning up at the police headquarters daily to mark attendance as per norms," a senior official at the police headquarters told DC. Among the middle level officers awaiting postings, circle inspectors top the list, followed by DySPs. Over 15 circle inspectors were shifted from various posts as part of the recent statewide shakeup subsequent to the change of guard from UDF to LDF.

Seven DySPs awaiting posting for long time include those shifted from Perumbavoor and Chathannoor following the Jisha murder and Puttingal tragedy respectively and two officers who returned after a foreign training. Many posts in units like Crime Branch, Special Branch, NORKA Cell and Passport Cell are lying vacant for quite some time.

Moreover, fresh postings for former Vigilance director Shanker Reddy, Intelligence director A. Hemachandran and training director Rajesh Dewan, who were promoted to DGP rank in March last, were also pending for quite long time. While Mr Reddy remains without a post, Mr Hemachandran is learnt to be sitting idle in his existing post as R. Sreelekha, who was posted as ADGP Intelligence is performing the functions of intelligence chief. Government sources maintained that the delay in postings were due to the assembly session and since it was over, postings will be made soon.
