Huge inflows into Godavari aids water release from Kaleshwaram

By lifting five gates from the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Reservoir (Mid Manair Dam), officials released around 6,300 cusecs of water to LMD

KARIMNAGAR: Officials have been releasing water from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) Project for the past two days, following heavy rains in Maharashtra and huge inflow of water into Godavari River.

By lifting five gates from the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Reservoir (Mid Manair Dam) situated at Kodurupaka village of Boinapally mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district, officials of irrigation department released around 6,300 cusecs of water to Lower Manair Dam (LMD) along with lifting around 9,450 cusecs of water from Gayatri Pump House situated in Ramadagu of Karimnagar district to the MMD.

At present the water level in MMD is about 12.85 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet) against its full capacity of 27.5 tmc ft. Whereas the water level in LMD is around 10 tmcs against its full capacity of 25 tmc ft.

The officials said that the process of lifting of water from Gayatri pump house to MMD and releasing water to LMD would continue until the water level in LMD reaches 20 tmc ft.

At present, the water level at Lakshmi barrage is 11.953 tmc ft against its full capacity of 16.17 tmc ft. The inflow of water from upstream into the barrage is around 3,600 cusecs of water while outflow of water is around 21,000 cusecs.

The water level in Saraswathi barrage is 7.96 tmc ft against its full capacity of 10.87 tmc ft. The inflow of water from Lakshmi barrage into Saraswati barrage is around 22,400 cusecs of water and outflow is around 21,000 cusecs of water, whereas the water level in Parvathi barrage is 5.176 tmc ft against its full capacity of 8.83 tmc ft. The inflow of water from Sarawathi barrage into Parvathi barrage is around 14,650 cusecs while the outflow is around 10,440 cusecs.
