Waqf Board gets new CEO

Waqf activists have voiced their reservations over the appointment of the officer whose track record is reportedly not ‘good’.

Hyderabad: Abdul Hameed took over the charge as the Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana State Waqf Board on Wednesday.

He served as RDO at Zaheerabad before assuming this new task. The state government transferred his services to the Minorities Welfare Department for two years to serve on deputation as the CEO, Waqf Board.

Mr Hameed, who served the Waqf Board earlier, was reluctant to take up this responsibility and took charge after a week of his transfer.

Waqf activists have voiced their reservations over the appointment of the officer whose track record is reportedly not ‘good’.

Mr Syed Ifteqar Hussaini said that government and the Board members were not serious in protecting Waqf properties. There was need of an officer who dares to take stringent action against land grabbers.

Mr Osman bin Mohammed Alhajiri, president, Deccan Waqf Properties Protection Committee, said there was a police picket till last night on the Waqf land attached to the Toli Masjid to check illegal constructions by a land shark, but it was withdrawn on Wednesday.

He asked whether this was a gift from the new CEO. He alleged that some Board members were interested to bring back Mr Hameed to clear their files.

He pointed out that the Central Waqf Council had constituted a committee of three members to inquire into the allegations made by former member Mr Mohammed Hamid against some affairs of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Waqf Boards.
