Visakhapatnam: The mastermind Pandiri Vishnu Murthy is the son of an Assistant Sub Inspector of police, who is currently working in the department.
The father has earned a very good name in the police department and apparently has no involvement in the scam thought up by his son, who left home a few years ago and is living alone in a rented flat.
Vishnu Murthy started operations in 2018 and got in touch with many hackers and started exploring a way of earning easy money with their support.
He confessed that he has attempted to make calls or spoken to many important personalities including the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj and also businessman Mukesh Ambani.
To find the accused, the Cybercrime police had to verify 512 IPs and 75,000 phone number and 8,732 tower IDs. This took time.
Murthy would create a fake mail ID and get an online mobile number of some foreign country. He made that his WhatsApp number and would chat with the MLAs on a voice call using a disguised voice.
The voice, which sounds like the voice of the PA or PS, is a recorded clip and lasts for 35 seconds.
The message says that “CM sir is in a meeting and there is a message for you on WhatsApp. Check the message and respond to it.”
