Alappuzha: Ajaz, 33, who set ablaze woman civil police officer (CPO), Soumya, on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries on Wedn-esday at the Gover-nment Medical College Hospital where he was under treatment.
Ajaz, a CPO with the Aluva traffic station, had sustained serious burns during the attack against Soumya, 34, who died on the spot in front of her house near Naluvila junction, Vallikunnam. “He was undergoing dialysis after his condition deteriorated. He died at 5.30 on Wednesday even-ing,” said MCH authorities. He was a native of Kakkanad in Ernakulam district.
The body will be handed over to his relatives after post-mortem on Thursday.
In his statement to Ambalappuzha magistrate (in-charge), he had confessed that he murdered Soumya as she rejected his marriage proposal.
Soumya Pushpakaran was a CPO with the Vallikunnam police station. Her funeral will be held on the premises of her house, Uppan Vilayil, by noon on Thursday. Her husband, Sajeev, who is working abroad, was expected to reach home by Wednesday night.
According to the relatives, the body will be placed at Vallikunnam police station at 9 a.m. to enable the public to pay their last respects. The body was kept in the morgue of a private hospital at Oachira, Kollam district.
