Chennai: Real estate broker hacked to death
Chennai: A 45-year-old man, a real estate broker, was murdered near Thalambur, 20 km off Chennai, for chiding a gang in his neighbourhood for attacking his relative for talking with a woman there.
The deceased, Gajendran, lives in Srinivasa Nagar, Thalambur. On Sunday night, he was riding his relative’s two-wheeler when the gang intercepted and attacked him with weapons, leaving Gajendran to die on the spot.
Thalambur police rushed to the scene and moved the body to Chengelpet government hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations revealed that the bike, which Gajendran was traveling in, was among the reasons, which led to the murder.
Gajendran’s elder brother Thulukkanam (48) lives in the neighbouring village. Thulukkanam’s son-in-law, Kamalakannan is from Tirupporur and on Sunday had come to his in-law’s house to check on his wife and their newborn child, police said.
Kamalakannan’s relative, Vishnu had also come with him. Vishnu meanwhile had visited a female friend in Gajendran’s neighbourhood, to which a four-member gang objected. “How dare you talk with a girl from our neighbourhood?” the gang had reportedly asked Vishnu and started attacking him. They seized his two-wheeler and drove him away. Learning the incident, Gajendran went with few men and chided the gang and secured the bike from them.
He informed his elder brother about the incidents and asked him to inform his son-in-law, Kamalakannan to collect the bike and not send his relative, Vishnu.
“When Kamalakannan picked up the two-wheeler and drove back, the gang intercepted him again and picked up a fight with him questioning about the bike,” a police officer said. Gajendran was informed of the incident and while he was riding towards the scene, he was intercepted and hacked to death by the gang.
Thalambur police have since rounded up more than five persons in connection with the murder.
