Violators beware: Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh

All measures will be taken to prevent a hooch tragedy, especially ahead of Onam

KOZHIKODE: Excise Commissioner Rishiraj Singh directed stringent action against violators of law and those officers failing to take action against them. Mr Singh was in Kozhikode on Sunday to review the meeting of Excise officials in the district. He also held interactions with NGOs campaigning against drugs, Kudumbasree workers, youth organisations, NSS volunteers, residents associations and school children.

He asserted that ex-servicemen who try to sell liquor outside would be punished. "All measures will be taken to prevent a hooch tragedy, especially ahead of Onam. The department would ensure that the hotels, clubs and beer and wine parlours are functioning within the stipulated time," he said. He also directed to seize drugs and liquor carried in private vehicles.

Mr Singh said that complaint boxes would be installed in all schools for the students and teachers. The commissioner, who visited Kozhikode after assuming charge, was honoured with a 'ponnada' by activist O.J. Chinnamma. He advised the public to send information regarding any drug abuse to his WhatsApp numbers 9447178000 and 9567911222.

During an interaction with the students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Nadakkavu, he advised them to minimise the use of social media and interact with parents more. "Drug abuse should be controlled first from home. Who is buying vehicles for the minors? The reading habit of the students is also coming down," he said.
