Neyyatinkara parts are still in darkness

KSEB restores power supply in 90% areas

Thiruvananthapuram: The KSEB continued maintenance works across Neyyatinkara section on Sunday and restored power supply in 90 per cent of the areas where monsoon winds had knocked off the distribution system. “Around 10 per cent areas where 350 poles snapped still continue to be in the dark. Many places such as the Marayamuttom, Kalliyoor, Kottukal, Kanjiramkulam, Neyyatinkara rural areas and parts of Balaramapuram continue to be in darkness. All the damages to high tension line have been rectified,” officials said.

Power has been restored in certain areas at Punnamoodu, part of Balaramapuram town. “We hope that power in all areas will be restored in another 36 hours. Manpower has been brought in from Punalur, Kollam and the rest of Thiruvananthapuram for work here. Works have been awarded to a maximum number of contractors. However, unlike in the city, we use conductor wires here for transmission which makes supply erratic during heavy winds,” officials said.

In many parts of the city, underground cable forms the arterial part of power supply whereas conductors in rural areas stand exposed to threats during the monsoons. Around 165 lines under Kanjiramkulam section and 78 around Poovar areas snapped.
