Hyderabad: Farmers of Medak, Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts came together on Sunday in support of the Mallannasagar project to be constructed in Medak district.
Farmers in four villages facing submergence by the reservoir have launched an agitation against it, with support from political parties, farmers, students and social organisations.
On Sunday, farmers from the three districts demanded that the government complete the project quickly, and alleged that the Congress and the TD were it project for political gains.
Farmers launched a common platform, ‘Mallannasagar Sadhana Samiti’ to press their demand. The first meeting here was attended by farmers, irrigation exper-ts and representative of social organisations.
Irrigation expert P. Shyamprasad Reddy said, “Mallannasagar could irrigate 10 lakh acres. But some vested interests with the support of Andhra leaders are trying to obstruct the project in the name of Land Acquisition Act. Farmers in four villages in Medak should not fall in their trap.”
