Covid-19: Eight more tested positive in Mandya which has the highest number of cases

Thanks to Mumbai returnees, Mandya beats Bengaluru as active Covid capital of Karnataka

Mysuru: Eight more people in Mandya tested positive for Covid 19 on Wednesday, and with this, Mandya has the highest number of active cases in Karnataka (145) and second highest of 168 positive cases after Bengaluru in the State. All the eight had travel history to Mumbai.

Among the 8 people, seven are from KRPet and one from Nagamangala . They all had migrated to Mumbai and resided in Goregaon East, Jpnagar, Shimlanagar, Shanthinagar, East sahar gaon in Mumbai.

They were working as auto drivers, private bank employees and some have been students studying there. Aged between 11 to 66 years of age, two are men and six are women. And they all had started their journey from Mumbai on 14 of this month.

On their arrival at Mandya checkposts, they were taken to district quarantine facility and their samples were collected on 16 of this month. All of them have been asymptomatic, according to Mandya DC Mr M V Venkatesh.

Seven month pregnant woman from Mumbai who had crossed all the checkposts along with her family, and had reached Mandya district by showing her Mother card, has been among three persons cured and discharged on Wednesday. Also the last case of jubilant factory cluster was also discharged on Wednesday. So far 24 people are discharged.

And of 168 cases in Mandya, as many as 146 cases are with Mumbai travel background. While as many as 1500 people have come from Maharashtra, the reports of 900 people have arrived and reports of 600 more people are awaited. So the worst is not over yet.

But Mandya DC Mr Venkatesh said, “We are prepared to handle the situation effectively. People should co operate with district authorities,” he said.

Also as many as 11,000 people have come to Mandya from various districts due to lockdown. As many as 3665 people are on home quarantine, 1304 people are quarantined at district quarantine facilities.
