Schemes hurt small hospitals

Most hospitals still fail to display the rates properly and prominently at the hospitals as stipulated under rules.

Hyderabad: Popular health insurance schemes like Aarogyasri and NTR Vaidya Seva are also forcing BPL families to visit corporate hospitals for treatment — resulting in the closure of several small hospitals and clinics. These schemes are turning into profit-making avenues for some of the empanelled hospitals.

Most hospitals still fail to display the rates properly and prominently at the hospitals as stipulated under rules. The District Medical Clinical Registration and Regulation rule states that every hospital during registration must submit a list of the fees being charged, including the specialist’s fee.

DHMO Hyderabad Mr. Venkateshwar Rao, said Chapter IV of the Regulation act states that during registration every establishment should submit a rate card. The same should be installed at the hospital at a prime location and must be visible to all. The hospital is supposed to follow the same rates mentioned in the card.
