Tirupati: The static surveillance and flying squad teams led by the nodal officer along with local police seized 11.68 kg of gold and 60 diamonds, transported from Chennai to Tirupati in a container without proper bills, at the state border near the Pallipattu check post, located in G.D. Nellore constituency in Chittoor district on Tuesday.

According to the District Election Officer and Collector P.S. Pradyumna, after the model code of conduct came into effect, the teams appointed by the ECI and police have intensified vehicular checking in the district. In this regard, SST and FST teams and police led by the Nodal Officer intercepted a container near the Pallipattu check post on Tuesday morning, in which unaccounted gold and diamonds were being transported to Tirupati from Chennai. “During the checks, we found 11.68 kg gold and 60 diamonds in the vehicle. The passengers failed to produce proper documents to the transporting authority. The valuables were seized and handed over to the Nodal Officer,” said P. Srinivasulu Rao, SI of Karveti Nagaram.
