Government to award Rs 75 lakh to best research in Kerala
KOCHI: Education minister C. Raveendranath on Sunday said that State Government has decided to institute the Kairali Research Award for the best research and researcher from the state from 2017-18, which will be worth '75 lakh. Inaugurating the five-day workshop on Innovations in Research Awareness and Y-fest organised by the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) here, the minister urged the universities in the state to publish research journals on the lines of peer reviewed journals published internationally.
"Contemporary research output is based merely on finance capital and aims for financial returns by creating original products and has no significance in social development. Hence fundamental research activities that benefit common people should also be encouraged," the minister added. The minister said that the higher education sector needs to be re-oriented with special focus on establishing highly sophisticated research labs and well equipped libraries. Necessary steps have already been initiated by the government in this regard, he added.
Excellence of each university is vested with its academic performance. Minister urged the teachers to take sincere efforts so as motivate students to contribute enough to attain innovative ideas and inquisitiveness in their research activities. The Minister said that modern research lab to be set up at Cusat will be a world class one. V.K. IbrahimKunju MLA presided over the function. Dr. Paulose Jacob, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Cusat, Prof. M.
