14 women inmates escape from rescue home

All of them are less than 30 years old. They were rescued during raids on brothel houses and shifted here, said Narsingi inspector

Hyderabad: Fourteen women inmates of the Ujwala Rescue Home, managed by the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust at Hydershakote in Narsingi, escaped after breaking open the ventilation of a bathroom in the wee hours of Saturday.

Narsingi inspector V. Shiva Kumar said that most of them were from West Bengal.

“All of them are less than 30 years old. They were rescued during raids on brothel houses and shifted here. An investigation is underway,” he said.

Around 2 am on Saturday, the women made their escape after sneaking through the small ventilation in the room, then on to the lintel above the window, from where they jumped on the ground and headed towards the compound wall.

“They also managed to scale a compound wall with solar fencing. Upon noticing a large number of women missing, the management informed the police. There were 30 women staying there. The escape has been captured on CC cameras,” police said.
