Kadapa cricket fraternity overjoyed as CSK snap Harishankar Reddy

He has had a prodigious rise since the time he impressed one and all as a member of the Under-14 Kadapa team

KADAPA: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) brought IPL glory to Kadapa district while picking up Maramreddy Harishankar Reddy, who hails from Nagurivandlapalle near Chinnamandem mandal Bonamala from the district.

The right-arm medium fast bowler has been a regular in the Andhra team since 2018. His parents Chandrareddy and Lakshmidevi and the villagers were elated that Harishankar Reddy would be in the thick of IPL action.

He has had a prodigious rise since the time he impressed one and all as a member of the Under-14 Kadapa team.

Chief Whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy, Cricket Association of YSR District president Murikipati Bharat Reddy and secretary Puttamreddy Sanjay Kumar Reddy hailed the elevation of such a talented cricketer.

Kadapa STEP Chief Executive Officer Dr Mallireddy Ramachandra Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that Harishankar Reddy, who has brought good recognition to Kadapa district, would be honoured soon.

Harishankar Reddy speaking to Deccan Chronicle said that he did not have proper facilities to play in his native village but that did not deter his spirit.

He went to Kadapa municipal ground in 2012 with one Ganesh Kumar for participating in the district selections. After being picked up for the Under-14 squad and later U-16 team, he came under the tutelage of coach C.D. Thomson, who also coached him when he was part of the ACA team at Vizianagaram in 2016. Vikram Verma and Nagesh Kumar were also part of the special coaching stint. Harishankar Reddy is currently in Indore with the Andhra squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which starts on Saturday.

Delighted to be picked up by CSK, he says he was gearing up to prove his mettle during the IPL.
