Two lakh candidates vie for eighty five government vacancies
Chennai: Around two lakh candidates across the state appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s (TNPSC) preliminary examination for Group-I services on Sunday.
Candidates said the general studies question paper was moderately tough. More weightage was given to current affairs this year. “Out of 200 questions, 50 questions are from current affairs. The maths questions from the Mental Ability sections were tougher than last year,” they said. But questions from conventional topics like history, geography and economics were not very tough.
The commission has notified 85 vacancies in various posts, including that of the deputy collector (29), deputy superintendent of police (34) and assistant commissioner of commercial taxes (8).
More than 2.18 lakh candidates applied for the group one exam, which was conducted at all district headquarters in 749 venues. In Chennai, more than 30,000 students appeared at 146 venues.
In a press release, V. Shobana, controller of examinations, TNPSC said, “The commission had conducted examinations for 10,145 vacancies for various posts from October 14, 2015, to date. In this period 44 selection lists for certificate verification and the oral test have been published. Necessary actions are being taken to publish all results within a short period.”
