CPI memorial attacked in Kannur
KOZHIKODE: The memorial of a CPI leader was attacked in Kannur early on Sunday amidst the continuing slugfest between the CPM and the CPI. The window panes of the memorial of CPI leader and freedom fighter E. Kunjiraman Nair at Karinkalkuzhi near Mayyil were broken allegedly in stone-pelting. Two weeks ago, the flag-hoisting column of the CPI was destroyed by unidentified persons in the same area. In January, the CPI office and K.V. Moosankutty memorial building near Parassinikadavu were attacked.
A memorial of CPI leader N.E. Balaram at his birthplace near Kuthuparambu was damaged earlier. All these places are the strongholds of the CPM. CPI Kannur district secretary P. Santhosh Kumar said that a few anti-social elements within the CPM were responsible for the attack. The CPI believes that its enemies want to provoke its cadres by such attacks. The Mayyil police have registered a case.
