Jimkki' portal to facilitate home food market

NRK women tie-up with rick group for product delivery on return trips.

Kochi: Two Non-Resident Keralite women are all set to launch their own online distribution channel akin to Amazon that would help clients to purchase, sell or exchange home-made products. The web-based Start Up ‘Jimkki.com’, an initiative of Deepa Viswananth and Rakhi Martin currently settled in Perth in Australia and originally natives of Kozhikode and Chalakuddy respectively, will be launched by former minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan at a function here on Saturday.

“Now there is a general concern that the food we eat have been loaded with preservatives to increase the shelf life and to appear fresh and appealing to our eyes. We intent to set a stage for the community to buy, sell or share their home produce -- veggies, fruits, poultry, dairy, cooked food, baked items, spices, etc. We encourage the consumer to do food shopping from neighbouring home or garden than from supermarket aisles,” said Deepa Viswananth, a Process Engineering professional who has taken a one-year break from her profession. Initially the delivery service will be available only in Ernakulam and Thrissur cities. The tech company has tied up with a group of autorickshaw drivers “who would take up the delivery during their return trips”.

“Both the sellers and the buyers can register in the website for free though delivery charge will be levied for house delivery. All that we’ll be taking is small commission, say one to two per cent for a sale transaction of Rs 100,” she said.‘Jimkki’ also serves as a platform to help young talents to generate an extra income by doing a casual jobs in their specific arena. “They get to choose from a variety of tasks from music, arts, cookery, technology, sports, etc depending on their field of interest and based on the clients’ demand. For insta-nce, performing music in a marriage event,” she said.
