Kerala High Court asks for details of student stir

The court also asked the state to inform the steps taken to prevent repetition of such events.

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the state government to submit details of incidents in the state where educational institutions and its personnel were attacked. The court also asked the state to inform the steps taken to prevent repetition of such events. A division bench of the high court issued the interim order on a petition filed by the principal, KMCT Polytechnic College, Pazhur, Kuttipuram seeking police protection.

The bench directed the state to file details of the cases that were booked and the offences charged against the accused and details of arrested persons in connection with the incidents. “The home secretary to government shall also furnish the details of the steps, if any, that are taken to prevent repetition of such incidents,” the court held and posted the case to January 27. The petitioner submitted that he was detained by a group of students who, with the help of outsiders, destroyed the assets of the college without any cause related to the institution.

The petitioner had approached the court after a group of students, who are under suspension, along with ‘anti-social elements’ detained the director of the institution as well as the teachers by obstructing the smooth functioning of the institution and thereby caused law and order situation in the campus. The court had passed an interim order directing to grant police protection. However, the petitioner was detained in the college by another set of students and miscreants. The petitioner argued that police failed to provide adequate protection to the college.
