Kanan Devan Plantations can't use bungalows for tourism

The government submitted that each of the bungalows was worth crores of rupees.

Kochi: The State government informed the Kerala High Court that the plantations including the 24 bungalows situated in the Kanan Devan Hills Village of Devikulam Taluk are part of the property vested in the government and it cannot be used for tourism purposes. In an affidavit, the state submitted that Kanan Devan Plantations were lessees of the property who are holding the same subject to payment of rent on the terms and conditions of the orders the State Land Board dated March 29, 74 and provisos of the KDH Act.

The government submitted that each of the bungalows was worth crores of rupees. The use of these bungalows for tourism purposes by the petitioner would result in causing a huge loss to the state. The petitioners who hold the properties as lessees are not entitled to do anything against the interest of the lessor or carry out any act without the permission of the lessor. The plantations were allowed to use the land and bungalows only for plantation purposes and not for tourism. The affidavit was filed on a petition filed by the Kannan Devan Hills Plantation Company.
