Kamal crucified for Hindutva: Sitaram Yechury

“It is in this context that each one needs to take up the responsibility of safeguarding Indian nationalism,â€he said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday said that director Kamal was being crucified by Sangh Parivar in the name of national anthem not for patriotism but as part of their Hindutva agenda. He was delivering the keynote address at the international seminar to mark the centenary of The Great October Revolution, organised by All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) here. Yechury said the move to hoist huge national flags in university campuses was part of Sangh Parivar’s political tactics to convert nationalism into Hindutva.

“It is in this context that each one needs to take up the responsibility of safeguarding Indian nationalism,” he said. CPM general secretary said the biggest achievement of the October Revolution was that it introduced to the world the idea that creation of a society without exploitation of man by man was practical. It was October Revolution which taught the world that welfare politics became a reality only when people enjoyed the right to food, equality, literacy and employment.

Yechury said it was the presence of Socialist Block with nuclear capability against the imperialist forces that prevented another horrific war after the Second World War. In place of World War the imperialist forces adopted the strategy of regional wars. “By going for joint military exercise with America in Pacific Ocean against China and signing the defence cooperation treaty with the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone back on the nuclear disarmament policy of the nation,” he said.
