Christmas Celebrations Adapt to Covid Guidelines

Hyderabad: With Kerala and Karnataka reporting Covid-19 cases, and the Centre sounding an alert, the bustling gatherings for Christmas are now adopting a new look that is familiar — one that prioritises safety.

Masks and sanitisers have again become an integral part of the festive attire. Cautionary announcements are being made to the congregations via WhatsApp messages, posters and videos of invites to the Christmas events.

"We are in no mood to put a stop to the Christmas celebrations. That does not mean we won't care for ourselves and our neighbours. The gatherings now coexist with a sense of responsibility, as families and friends adapt their celebrations to adhere to safety guidelines," said George Samuel D., a senior choir member of CSI Centenary Wesley Church, Ramkote.

Pastors, guardians of spiritual well-being, are sharing words of wisdom and encouragement in these times — from social distancing, personal hygiene and sanitising and wearing masks, especially during carolling, as it entails visiting homes.

Despite the challenges, there is a collective determination to maintain the essence of Christmas. The adaptation of special events and carolling to align with safety protocols shows the resilience of communities in the face of adversity.
