AP sees scope to save 1,700 MU of power worth Rs 1,000 crore per annum
VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh has tremendous scope to save at least 1,700 million units (MU) of energy worth around Rs 1,000 crore per annum against the total estimated scope of 17085 MU — out of the total energy demand of 66530 MU as estimated by discoms for FY2022-23 — by implementing energy efficiency steps.
The AP state energy conservation mission conducted an awareness programme in Vijayawada on Sunday to mark National Energy Conservation Week-2021.
Addressing the meeting, APSECM CEO Chandrasekhara Reddy said the primary energy demand in India would increase to about 1500 million-toe by 2030 from 770 million-toe in 2012.
The state has implemented PAT (Perform, Achieve and Trade) scheme in 30 energy-intensive industries under PAT cycle-2 for a period of three years under the supervision of APSECM and have over-achieved PAT compliance with 0.295 Mtoe of energy savings (3430 MU) worth around Rs 2,185 crore, which was officially declared by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Union ministry of power.
The CEO explained that it may not be difficult to save around 10 per cent (1700 MU) of the total potentiality per annum. The state has already proved this can be done, by saving 3430 MU worth Rs 2,185 crore in 30 industries under PAT scheme within a three-year-period.
He said AP saved 5,600 MU of energy worth Rs 3,800 crore so far by implementing various energy efficiency steps including the UJALA scheme, PAT and LED street lighting. Besides this, AP also saved around Rs 2,500 crore by purchasing electricity in the spot market at cost-effective prices.
Explaining the potential in the building sector for saving energy, Chandrasekhara Reddy said that as per the report of Administrative Staff College of India, given to AP government, there is huge scope to save 888 MU of energy worth Rs 565 crore in government buildings alone, from mandal level up, by implementing energy efficiency steps.
He appealed to the people to adopt power-saving methods as “saving power is as beneficial as producing power.”
