Hyderabadi youth shot at in Chicago survives

Hyderabad: Syed Siraj Mehdi of Chanchalguda in the city was shot at four times by two car-borne shooters at North of Devon in Chicago in the US, where he is currently working, but miraculously survived. Siraj was returning home at 4 am on December 4 at that time.

The bullets hit the back seat of the car. According to sources, analysis of the bullet holes showed that automatic guns had been used in the incident.

Siraj’s father Syed Abdul Hasan told this correspondent that he and his wife want to meet their son who is traumatised by the attack. He appealed to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad and the Centre to help them meet his son.

Majlis Bachao Tahreek spokesman Amjadullah Khan brought the matter to the notice of Dr Subramanyam Jaishankar, minister for external affairs, the Indian Ambassador to the US and Indian Consulate General in Chicago and requested them to take up this issue with the US government.

He said Indian Ola and Uber drivers are being targeted in and around Chicago and the culprits are not being identified. Even in Siraj’s case, the culprits have not been identified till now.
