Goa CM launches Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System in state

The initiative, a part of Union Home Ministry's National Crime Records Bureau, was launched on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar launched Crime and Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS) in the state which will provide the police an access to the national database of history-sheeters.

The initiative, a part of Union Home Ministry's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), was launched in presence of senior police officials on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.

On the occasion, Parrikar said that online filing of FIRs can be introduced only after correcting a "wrong notion" about FIRs.

"The concept of FIR will have to be brought properly to the notice of people. People think that a person against whom an FIR is registered is a criminal. It need not be. FIR is just a first information report," he said.

He said if a wrong notion about FIR is not corrected, then anybody will file the FIR online. "...Otherwise any Tom, Dick or Harry will lodge an FIR," the chief minister said, adding that if online filing of complaint is allowed it should be named something else other than FIR.
