Devotees move Kerala High Court to revoke order on ban
ALAPPUZHA: The devotees of Chettikulangara Devi Temple have moved the High Court against the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KeSCPCR) banning Chooral Muriyal ritual. A member of Sree Devi Vilasam Hindu Matha Convention said the temple administration office received the order last month following which they filed the petition. Alleging that the order was passed unilaterally, he said it’s impossible to abolish the centuries-old ritual. "It’s still sub judice," he said.
The commission issued the order on Nov 1 asking them to stop the primitive ritual since it was a violation of child rights. A.K. Rajasree, who approached it against the practice, said the court had not allowed a stay order. "I know that the devotee-group had approached the court," she said. Sandhya Raju, the petitioner's lawyer, said the case, scheduled for hearing the other day, was adjourned. "There has been no stay order," she said.
