Cruelty to dogs: P C Thomas faces cases

The protest was against the government's alleged failure to control street dog menace.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Cantonment police on Sunday registered cases against MP and Kerala Congress (Thomas group) leader P.C. Thomas for cruelty to animals for bringing 19 stray dogs to the capital city in cages and leaving them near the Secretariat as part of a strike. The protest was against the government's alleged failure to control street dog menace. The abandoned dogs were later shifted to the dog rehabilitation centre at Pettah. The cases are registered under section 143, 147 and 149 (rioting, unlawful assembly) and section 11 (treating animals cruelly) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act.
