Man returns from bank with bag full of money: Rs 20,000 in Rs 10 coins to be exact

New Delhi: Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 500, 1000 notes, interesting stories have been pouring out from every corner of the country. And one of the amusing things that people are facing now, are note-starved banks handing them bags of coins in exchange of their old currency.

According to a reports, 38-year-old Imtiaz Alam is one such citizen, who after waiting for almost 4 hours in line, received 10 rupee coins in exchange of his old notes which were worth Rs 20,000.

The incident took place in Delhi’s Jamia Cooperative Bank on Friday, when Alam was informed by the manager that the bank had run out of funds and that could only exchange Rs 2,000. But Alam was in dire need to money, so the manager offered him a solution – he could exchange his money, but would get only Rs 10 coins in return.

After the four long wait, Alam was more than happy to at least get some money than return home without the cash he needed. He soon got a bag full of money, that weighed almost 15 kgs.

"Though I was concerned on how to carry it (the bag full of coins) but I gladly agreed... at least it is valid money,' Alam said.

Alam has been using his coins without much trouble at restaurants, shops and cabs and had even had offers from people to exchange his change for bigger notes.
