Thiruvananthapuram: A Malayalam version of the mobile app of customs has been brought out by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). The app that was launched in English and Hindi versions in January offers information on customs rules and also comes with a duty calculator that helps passengers to calculate the duty payable by them. The app has been brought out in Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil.
According to CBEC sources, the app is meant to ensure transparency in the functioning of customs wing. It provides information on customs procedures, prohibited goods, duty on various items and rules applicable for Indians as well as foreigners. It also has a grievance redressal platform for passengers to file complaints or get clarifications. The app which can be accessed offline also would be updated as and when rules are changed or modified, sources said.
