Rains continue to expose poor amenities in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Rains struck many parts of the city on Wednesday, leaving residential colonies waterlogged, roads muddy and sewage lines overflowing.

Abids, Amberpet, Charminar, Saroornagar, Dilsukhnagar, Hayathnagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Gurrumguda, Miyapur, Mehdipatnam, Retibowli, Malakpet received a short burst of rainfall.

Sewage water overflowed at Railway Officers Colony in Botiguda. Roads in the Zaminstapur area were filled with potholes after being exposed to city rains.

Rain-hit residents took to social media to express their plight. Mud-filled roads in Bowenpally that were washed away spoke of ill-maintained city roads.

Residents in Shaikpet said even 10 minutes of rain left the roads flooded with drainage water. A picture of the waterlogged Barkatpura bus depot at RTC Colony in Kachiguda made the rounds on social media.

A driver and two labourers were reported to be stuck in water at the Shamshabad underpass at Exit No. 15. Traffic police could rescue three persons but the lorry was submerged.

Dayara Market Yakutpura, Nacharam, Prashantnagar, Kattedan, Trimulgherry, Langer Houz, Golconda, and Nandinagar experienced power cuts.

IMD says a cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman sea could intensify, bring rain.

Hayathnagar recorded 15.8 mm rainfall, Saroornagar 14.3 mm, Sivarampally at 10.8 mm.

Mahbubnagar dist received 43.0 mm rain, Vikarabad 33.8 mm and Kumaram Bheem 32.5 mm.
