Bengaluru: A 12-year-old boy and a 60-year-old man sustained injuries after rock splinters entered their houses following an explosion to break rock at a nearby excavation site on Magadi Road on Tuesday.

The police said the incident happened at 12.30 pm and the injured have been identified as Akilesh, 12, and Dakshinamurthy, 60, residents of the Minerva Mills Workers Quarters, the police said.

According to the police, the excavation was being carried out at a project site undertaken by the Prestige Group and explosives were being used to blast the rocks.

During the explosion a few splinters flew and fell upon the houses at the adjoining Minerva Mills quarters. Akhilesh received a 2-cm abrasive injury on his forehead and Dakshinamurthy was injured on his right thumb, the police said.

The two were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were administered first-aid and were discharged. The police collected samples of explosives from the spot and sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to ascertain its type. The police are also probing into the excavator’s valid licence if any to handle explosives for rock blasting.

The Magadi Road police have registered a case of negligence against the project manager for handling explosives, endangering public safety and further investigations are underway.
