Smoke causes tension in Bhubaneswar-bound train at Nellore
Nellore: Tension prevailed in the Bhubaneswar-bound train from Tirupati on Sunday as smoke erupted from the S-3 compartment when the train was nearing Vedayapalem here.
Train No 22880 was brought to a halt at Vedayapalem railway station and it resumed the journey after the Loco Pilots and the Guard addressed the problem.
Railway Police official Srinivasa Chari said the smoke and a little bit of fire were caused due to “brake binding underneath the wheels” of the coach. He said there was no risk to life or property.
“The Superfast Express Train was stopped after passing the home signal of Vedayapalem railway station on the down line at 12.58pm. The loco pilot, assistant Loco Pilot and the guard acted quickly, released the vacuum brake cylinder and reset it. The train re-started at 1.18pm towards Nellore,” he said.
Meanwhile, senior railway officials and GRP DSP Muralikrishna inspected the S-3 coach at Nellore railway station once again before allowing the train to proceed.
