Kudumbashree to cook for youth festival
Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time in the history of Kerala School Youth Festivals, Kudumbashree will handle the mess in this year’s event to be held in Alappuzha from December 7 to 9.
This is a shift from the tradition where Pazhayidom Namboodiri handled the mess.
The usually sumptuous meal arranged for the participants everyday will be avoided this time.
Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri has been an attraction of the Kerala state school youth festival ever since he was given the mantle of catering for the festival in 2006.
Usually, a pandal, divided into 12 sections, that can accommodate 3,000 people were used for the youth festival.
At least, 15,000 people were served food daily at the youth festival. Vegetarian meals are served for both lunch and dinner. Sambar is regular item for both lunch and dinner. Curries vary for each day.
Avial, erissery, theeyal, koottukari, kichadi or pachadi made of pineapple and banana were among the items served for lunch and dinner. Muloshyam and rasam are usually served as dinner. The usually breakfast of the youth festival consisted of poori, idiyappam, uppumavu, idli–sambar, and puttu–kadala.
Evening tea served at 3.30 pm, had snaks like Kozhukatta, bhajji, vattayapam, bonda and ela ada.
