Kochi: Private buses operating in Vypeen, Njarackal routes indulged in a flash strike after a youth assaulted a conductor following an argument at Malipuram near Njarackal on Tuesday morning.
According to cops, the incident happened at 9 am when the youth questioned the private bus not stopping at bus-stop and halting a little ahead.
“An argument broke out between the crew and the youth. The latter then beat up the conductor. The private buses indu-lged in a flash strike as a protest. A case was lodg-ed at Njarackal police station against the accused identified as Nafrat (21),” police said.
The flash strike put hundreds of commuters at difficulty. The KSRTC deployed additional buses in the route, providing succor to office goers and students in the peak hour.
“We’ve sent additional buses brought from Paravur, Ernakulam and Kodungallur depots and operated services through Goshree bridge at a frequency of 20 minut-es,” said V.M. Thajudeen Sahib, Ernakulam Zonal Traffic officer.
The private buses, though, resumed operation by evening after the Tahsildar intervened and held talks when he promised strict action against the accused
