Mysuru: Eiffel Tower, Barbie dolls, Dasara flower show to have them all

Shivalingappa S Badigar is coming up with eight feet tall models of the Buddha, Basavanna and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Mysuru: Tourists visiting Mysuru during Dasara this year can see replicas of the famed Sri Channakeshava temple at Somnathpura, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and even models of a family of elephants and Barbie dolls at the Dasara flower show at Nishad Bagh, which will be held from September 21 to October 1.

Besides the display of 2,15,000 pots with more than 60 variety of colourful flowers, including 2,10,000 cultivated over the past three months by over 55 workers in five different nurseries of the horticulture department and 5,000 from Lalbagh in Bengaluru, several mega floral models on the lines of those displayed at the Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh, will be featured at the Dasara flower show this year.

Artist S.P. Agarwal is coming up with a mega floral model of the Sri Channakeshava temple which will be 37 feet wide, 18 feet tall and 16 feet long and is using four lakh red, white, yellow and orange roses and green foliages. The big clock tower model will be prepared with 35,000 white and red roses and the Eiffel Tower with chrysanthemum.

Artist Umashankar is coming up with an 11-feet peacock done with 4,000 orchid sticks, an 11-feet tall Barbie doll made of 6000 orchids, a herd of elephants made of Asparagus and three butterflies made of 10,000 rose buds.

Using millets and jowar, an artist from Hubballi, Shivalingappa S Badigar is coming up with eight feet tall models of the Buddha, Basavanna and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Pramoda Devi gets state invite
With the royal family busy preparing for Sharannavarathri celebrations, the Dasara executive committee led by district in-charge minister H.C. Mahadevappa and Mysuru DC D Randeep extended a formal invitation to Rajamata Pramoda Devi Wadiyar at the Mysuru Palace. A honorarium of '36 lakh for the festivities was handed over to Rajamata by Mr Mahadevappa.

The jumbos are being trained to carry 300 kg wooden howdah with three bags weighing 450kg in them, so that they will not face any problem while carrying the 750 kg golden howdah during Jumbo Savari. “The wooden howdah was carried by Arjuna on Monday. The same will be carried by Gajendra, Abhimanyu and Balarama,” DCF Yedukondalu said.
