Outfits plan stir in interstate border areas of Krishnagiri

To demand stopping water for TN.

KRISHNAGIRI: Some pro-Kannada organisations have planned a counter protest on Monday in the interstate border areas of Krishnagiri and another on Tuesday at Nagara on the Karnataka side of the border near Sathymangalam in Erode district.

The protest has been called despite Karnataka government’s decision not to allow such events in the state as it is returning to normalcy after witnessing series of violent incidents since September 5.

“The Kannada Jagruti Vedike (KJV) and others have planned a protest on Monday morning in the state border at Attibelle, demanding our state to stop water being released for Tamil Nadu.” K. Manjunath Deva, state president for KJV told reporters on Sunday.

He added, “the protest to be headed by Vattal Nagaraj, president of the Kannada Chulavali Vatal Paksha, was called not against Tamils but for our rights over Cauvery river.”

Manjunath also wondered, “how Tamil Nadu can conduct a statewide bandh when our dams were opened as per the Supreme court order in a situation in which dams here has lesser storage level between 30 to 40 tmcft due to insufficient rainfall.”

The pro-kannada leader was also angry against Tamil film actors’ who staged a protest in Chennai for the Cauvery issue and also against the attack on Tamils due to riots in Karnataka.

“The film industry in both the states has good relationship. But, few try to break the bondage by giving negative statements against Kannada leaders fighting for our welfare,” Manjunath said.

He demanded that the “few Tamil actors who gave negative comments about the octogenarian Vattal Nagaraj should express apology for their disturbing act.”
Manjunath also appealed to the people in Tamil Nadu to avoid speaking in such (rabid) manner that could disturb peace in both the states.”
