Honour for every Indian to carry forward legacy of Mahatma: CJI Ramana
TIRUPATI: Chief Justice of India, Justice N.V. Ramana, said on Friday that it is an honour for every Indian to carry on the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and his nonviolent resistance against the British Raj for India's independence.
The CJI was chief guest at the unveiling of a book, titled “Sathya Shodhana Mahatmuni Athmakatha” compiled by MLA Bhumana Karunakar at a function in the Rahul Convention Centre here. The MLA and TTD executive officer Dharma Reddy jointly presented a Gandhi statue to the CJI.
Justice Ramana said it was Gandhiji who taught the people to live their life honestly. Praising the services of the Mahatma, the CJI proposed that everyone should read the Satya Sodhana Mahatmuni Athmakatha.
“Tirupati and its denizens are fortunate as Gandhiji had visited this place twice,” the CJI said.
He congratulated the local MLA for the timely and insightful portrayal of Gandhi's non-violent struggle for India’s independence. He also lauded Karunakar Reddy’s contributions to politics, from his early beginnings as a leftist.
Earlier, The CJI unveiled the statue of the president and founder general secretary of the Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) Gutta Munirathnam Naidu at the RASS building. He released a book on the life and contributions of Munirathnam, titled ‘Manavatha Nikethanam’.
Earlier in the day, Ramana, accompanied by his wife and other family members, offered prayers at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala. The CJI was welcomed with traditional temple honours by deputy chief minister Narayana Swamy, TTD chairman Subba Reddy and executive officer Dharma Reddy.
After the darshan, the CJI was offered ‘Vedasirvachanam’ by the temple priests inside the Ranganayakula Mandapam followed by presentation of ‘theertha prasadam’ to him by the TTD chairman.
Before winding up his two-day visit to Tirupati, the CJI offered prayers at the Goddess Padmavathi Devi temple in Tiruchanoor. Chief justice of Telangana high court, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, judges of the high court Justice Ravindra Babu, Venkataramana and other judicial officers accompanied him.
