E-district portal to offer more government services

In the next one year, a host of new services will be provided through the portal.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More government services, including creamy layer certificate and Santhwana scheme of NORKA-Roots, will be provided through the state government's e-district portal by October. At present, about 24 government certificates are being offered through e-district portal 'https://edistrict.kerala.gov.in' So far, over three core certificates have been issued through it. In the next one year, a host of new services will be provided through the portal, said Kerala State IT Mission director Sreeram Sambasiva Rao.

"We are in the process of making available creamy certificate of revenue department and Santhwana financial assistance scheme of NORKA-Roots through e-district portal by October. More services to be provided through the portal are also being chalked out on the basis of a survey conducted among the public in Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad districts. We hope to add these services in another one year," Mr. Rao said in a statement.

Currently, online Right to Information Services of selected departments are being provided through e-district. It would be extended to more departments soon, he said. As many as 81 lakh persons have got registered accounts in the portal. Introduction of payment gateways with options to pay using internet banking, credit card and debit card of about 66 banks has made the e-district portal more attractive. Many are also using the portal for paying the bills of services like electricity and water supply. The service was piloted in Kannur and Palakkad districts in 2010. It was extended to all districts by 2013, the statement said.
