Cyber domes in Kochi, Kozhikode this year
KOCHI: The Kerala Police will set up two more cyber domes in Kochi and Kozhikode by this year end on the model of existing successful one at Thiruvananthapuram Technopark in its efforts to boost cyber case investigations. “In Kochi, we’ve identified 3000 sqft inside the Infopark campus. Similarly we’ve segregated the space at Kozhikode too. Along with IT experts in Police, the services of IT professionals will also be utilised at the cyber domes. We’ve found it extremely useful in social media observation, cyber forensic and tracking child security among others,” said Director General of Police Loknath Behera on the sidelines of ‘Cocon 2017’.
The police chief said the app-based applications in Forensics need to be updated frequently (every six months) and the private individuals and corporate can help the law-enforcing agencies in the matter. Earlier delivering presidential address in the two-day conference meet held here, Union Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan said other states should replicate the model of the state when it comes to having the computer emergency response centre (cyber dome).
The number of internet users in the country is set to grow exponentially to 700-750 million in four to five years and the country is set to become one of the largest digital footprints on earth. “In a short period of five to six months India has gone on from being the 155th country in terms of mobile data consumption to becoming among the top five and is on the way to exceed that of the US and China,” Sundararajan said.
