Vruksha Bandhan' celebrated at Warangal

Participants tie rakhis to trees, vow to protect them.

Warangal: To promote conservation of ecology through trees and to stress the need to care for them just like human beings, the ‘Vana Seva’ society organised a programme ‘Vruksha Bandhan’ on the occasion of Rakhi festival at Vana Vignan Kendra Zoo Park on Thursday.

Warangal conservator of forests Md. Jalaluddin Akbar took part in the programme and tied rakhi to one of the trees. Many other children also took part in the programme and tied rakhis to trees. Mr. Akbar said trees need to be cared just like siblings for a green environment. He explained to children the need to grow more trees and urged them to have gardens in their homes.

On the occasion, seed propagation programme was also launched by M.J. Akbar and divisional forest officer K. Purushotham which is aimed at growing trees on hillocks.

"The seeds would be sprinkled on the hillock manually whereever there is mud and would be left to grow on their own. Seeds of big trees like banyan, neem and gooseberry which do not required much water but grow up into big trees will be sprinkled, said Mr. Purushotham.

During the programme, a snake catcher Banka Satish Yadav of NGOs Colony, who caught a snake called ‘sand boa'' handed it over to the zoo officials. It is a rare species and has the ability to move backwards and forward and also looks identical from both ends.

Mr. Akbar and DFO Purushotham appreciated him for not harming or selling off the snake and helping to preserve the species. Forest officials Punnam Chander, Ch. Srinivasulu, Vana Seva members Arvind, Venkat, and many others took part in the programme.
