Liquor policy: Syro-Malabar Church waits for govt stand

Fr. Poochakkatt said the decision of Consumerfed cannot be conceived as the policy of the government.

Kochi: The Church will not support any move that would increase the consumption of liquor in the state, Fr. Jimmy Poochakkatt, spokesman of Syro-Malabar Church told DC on Thursday. Commenting on the decision of Consumerfed to sell liquor through online Fr. Poochakkatt said the decision of Consumerfed cannot be conceived as the policy of the government.

“It is for the government to spell out its policy. The LDF has won the elections on the promise that they would strive for bringing down the consumption of liquor in the state. We hope the government will adhere to that promise,” he said. On providing better facilities for liquor vending he said Church does not have any objection to improvements in the facilities. “We don’t have any objection to online sale or sale in super markets”, he added.
