KOZHIKODE: Local residents at Aamayattu Vayal here on Thursday blocked officials of Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) from conducting a land survey for laying Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) pipelines. Members of as many as 40 families were gathered on the spot shouting slogans against the GAIL project.
A large posse of police suddenly rushed to the spot and tried to remove the protesters which ended up in minor scuffle between them. The proposed pipeline passes through the areas in which the families resided. The officials decided to temporarily suspend the survey procedures. Meanwhile, the attempt of women police personnel to remove the women protesters invited widespread protest of local people.
